We cannot turn on the television, radio or computer without hearing about Covid-19, more commonly known as the “Corona Virus.”
Mason Wright Senior Living is on top of the latest news, prevention protocols and reporting processes and will continue to stay current and do what needs to be done for the safety and well-being of our residents, staff, the entire Mason Wright community and the greater Springfield community. As the news continues to evolve, Mason Wright continues to adjust its response accordingly.
In the past week, we have installed additional, automatic hand sanitizers to those already existing in our common areas and have posted signs on the proper use of hand sanitizer. Everyone who enters Mason Wright Senior Living is required to use the hand sanitizer upon entering and leaving the building. We have also posted signs in all common area bathrooms reminding everyone to wash their hands with warm, soapy water for at least 20 seconds. If something can be disinfected, we are disinfecting it, several times a day! We’ve met with residents to answer questions and educate on how to best prevent acquiring the virus.
Yesterday, the World Health Organization (WHO) categorized Covid-19 as a global pandemic, which means this virus has popped up in many countries around the world. That is not to say that millions are dying–they are not–and we must be mindful of the facts. At the same time, this virus can be fatal, not only to, but especially to frail, elderly people who are already health compromised in some way(s).
We are very lucky at Mason Wright to have a phenomenal staff, management team and community of residents who are all working together to ensure that Covid-19 does not jeopardize anyone’s health and well-being. Along those lines, effective today, until at least April 30, 2020 (potentially longer, depending upon the status of the virus), Mason Wright is taking the following steps, starting with the suspension of the following:
- inter-generational programming
- live entertainment
- all outside groups, including church groups
- overnight guests
- dining guest
- outside visitors to assisted living activities
- shopping trips and outings
- residents attendance at outside Day programs (excepting medical appointments)
- special event buffets
- salon services, both hair and nails
Having to cancel events and suspend outings and certain services is not something we do lightly and we understand the challenge this represents, not just to our residents, but to our vendors. We appreciate, more than we can say, the phenomenal people who come to Mason Wright to entertain, enliven, and engage our community in so many ways and we cannot wait to invite you ALL back in! In the meantime, please take care of yourselves while we take care of ourselves and let’s all pray for a swift end to Covid-19.
