Still COVID-19 Free!

Happy Autumn!  It is a pleasure to write to you and tell you that we have been COVID-19 FREE for four and half months!  It is our goal to remain so and we thank all of you for continuing to wear masks, hand wash and hand sanitize several times a day and practice appropriate social distancing when you’re here at Mason Wright and anywhere else you may go.

At the same time, I am discouraged by the news we received at the end of last week.  On September 30th, Massachusetts updated its community-level data map and sadly, the public health data indicates that Springfield has been listed as a high-risk community.   As a result, businesses in the City will not be permitted to move to Step 2 of Phase III (VIGILANT) on October 5 until the public health data indicates a lower risk factor and the City remains in a lower-risk category for at least three weeks’ worth of data.

We had hoped to initiate indoor visits, but until Springfield’s status as a high-risk community is downgraded, we will, weather permitting, stick to outdoor visits at this time.

Folks who would like to sign up for an outdoor visit, please go to SignUp Genius, using this link:  As a reminder, you must arrive for your visit 15 minutes prior to its start time to check in, be screened for symptoms and to fill out the COVID-19 questionnaire.  Also, no pets are allowed at visits, at this time.  Once your screening is complete, your loved one will be escorted to the patio for the visit.  If you arrive later than your visit time, Mason Wright reserves the right to cancel the visit.  Also, if the weather is not conducive to an outdoor visit, whether it be raining, too cold or windy, the visit will be cancelled.  If you have any questions, please contact the Front Desk receptionist at 413-733-1517.

On an up note, our small group communal dining and Life Enrichment programs are going well!  It is so nice to see residents in our Route 66 Diner and 2nd and 3rd floor dining rooms again. Entertainment is back, special events like our Western Day, (see our Facebook page) are back and residents are socializing and enjoying each other’s company. Our next special event here is Oktoberfest on October 15th!

Everyone continues to wear masks when not eating and we are vigilant about social distancing so that we can continue bringing people together.  We also observe Governor Baker’s group gathering guidelines.

I know, from personal experience, how difficult it is to not be able to see your loved one at any time; the way it used to be, and I pray that we all will get back to that place sometime soon.  In the meantime, we must work together to keep one another safe.  When you do go out or take your loved one out of Mason Wright, please observe the handwashing, sanitizing, social distancing and mask protocols. Also, everyone is still safer at home and we encourage people not to go out, unless it is for a medical appointment or very special occasion.   Only by working together and taking the on-going threat of COVID-19 seriously, can we hope to keep it from entering our midst.

We thank each and every one of you for your commitment to caring and keeping our residents and staff safe.  May you all remain safe and healthy, as well!
